Every year the RTFD conducts an extensive Fire Prevention program to surrounding schools, Day Care’s, Businesses and Organizations that express an interest in learning about Fire Safety. We also conduct fire/evacuation drills in coordination with local nursing care facilities.
Our Fire Safety program is approximately 30 to 40 minutes in length and includes a short video tailored towards children to assist in the learning process.
We provide fire extinguisher classes consisting of a live burn and extinguisher discharge. The classroom/group portion is approximately 20 to 30 minutes in length at which time we cover the basics of extinguisher types and proper discharging procedures. Upon completion, the next phase of the class is the live fire extinguisher discharge in which we provide the burn barrel, fuel and ignition source and the requesting organization provides the extinguishers. Usually every member or the organization participates and discharges a live extinguisher in order to put out a small fire in a burn barrel (simulating a garbage can or cooking fire.)
We conduct fire inspections and walk-through’s of businesses and discuss problems and issues or make suggestions to management in order to provide a safer work environment for their employees.
